Wellllll this week….was another week in the mission. Full of learning moments and tests of faith.
This week I have a strengthened testimony of the sweet peace the gospel brings. Living in Boa Viagem, Setubal and Candeias I have been in the city my whole mission. So of course the busy streets full of buses, sirens blaring, people shouting, motorcyles revving, apartment buildings, street lights-basically NOISE everywhere. We live in a world full of noise and as much as we can adjust and become accustomed to it, what our spirits that our Heavenly Father created really yearn for is peace.
I think about what brings peace into my life. And it is righteousness. As a missionary (what geoffrey talked about-LOVED your email smurf) we have mission rules to follow, as children of God we have commandments and standards, and as members of the church we have these along with covenants. It is clear from the words of the prophets, and in the scriptures that we are blessed because of these guidances. However there is a condition. The word IF. I have been noticing lately how often the word if is tied to a promise that our Heavenly Father gives to us. IF ye keep my commandments, IF ye repent, If ye harden not your hearts, IF ye love me…keep my commandments.
We know what lies in store for us…the blessings of righteous living are real. However it is up to us IF we want to obey, IF we want to go to church on sunday, IF we want to stop smoking, IF we want to have an eternal family. This week was rough seeing a few people we have been teaching decide to deny those blessings in their lives by continuing to immerse themselves in that noise of sin and iniquity. How hard it is for us as missionarys to see those we serve and love decide NOT to partake of those blessings….I often think of how much more difficult it is for our Heavenly Father to see this with far more of His children than I see. And yet He is always there ready for us to jump into His arms, to come back to Him through repentance, purifying our hearts and TURNING TO HIM.
20. There is a law, irrevocably decreed in heaven before the foundations of this world, upon which all blessing are predicated
21. And when we obtain any blessing from God, it is by obedience to that law upon which it is predicated
Doutrina e Covenios 130:20-21
I pray that we all pay attention to those IF’s and make the choice to enjoy the sweet peace the gospel brings as we live it 🙂
I love you all
